Helping Pay for Hockey
There are several ways to obtain financial help with the financial costs of hockey:
- KIDSPORT OTTAWA
KidSport Ottawa helps kids overcome social and economic barriers preventing or limiting their participation in organized sport. Please contact ottawakidsport.on.ca for all enquiries.
- CANADIAN TIRE JUMPSTART
Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities was launched to address an issue of national concern, the inactivity of kids. National in scope, but local in its focus, Jumpstart helps kids in financial need participate in organized sports and physical activities by assisting with the costs associated with registration, equipment and/or transportation. Please consult the Jumpstart website for further information and instructions on applying for funding through either the regular Jumpstart program or The Big Play, a program focused on hockey.
- EASTEND MHA OUTREACH PROGRAM
Our EMHA Outreach Program is not meant to replace or duplicate programs which already exist, but to help families apply (hopefully successfully) for subsidies from other organizations, to provide free hockey equipment to those in need and to have a central location where information can be found. Please contact our Outreach Coordinator Maryse Smith at outreach@eastendstorm.ca
Registration Payment Policy
All registrations are made through our online registration system.
As part of our continuing efforts to reduce the costs of operations, Eastend Minor Hockey Association is asking members to consider paying their registration fees by etransfer instead of credit card. Credit card fees from registration cost the association an exorbitant amount of money. Card companies charge a fee of up to 3% on top of the registration fee members pay. We would much rather apply that money toward the cost of something that directly benefits our players!
Payments made by EMT should be made to eastendstorm@gmail.com. Please ensure that you put your player's name(s) and date of birth in the notes to ensure that the payment is applied to the correct account. IF a password is required, please use the word hockey as that password.
Cheques are no longer accepted for registration payment. For special arrangements and any other methods of payment (Jumpstart, financial assistance, etc.), please contact the Registrar.
The following chart shows where the money is spent from registration fees - this is an average for all players in the Eastend Minor Hockey Association. As you can see, 57% of your registration fees are required just to pay for game ice, referees and the GHA administrative costs billed to the association as a GHA member association.

Refund Policy
All refund requests must be made in writing to: registrar@eastendstorm.ca.
All refunds are arranges by the Registrar and paid by EMHA. Registered players transferring out to play in another association will receive refunds, the EMHA does not transfer fee payments to other organizations, with the exception of the competitive arms of our association: the Ottawa Jr. 67’s, Gloucester Rangers and Orleans Blues.
There is an administration fee applied to all refunds based on the date that the Registrar receives the written refund request, as detailed below:
Request Made By | Eligible Refund |
Before Sort-Outs | Full refund |
On or before October 15th | 2/3 refund of registration |
On or before December 1 | 1/3 refund of registration |
After December 1 | NO REFUND FOR ANY REASON |
Registration Information for New Players to Eastend Minor Hockey
EMHA does permit online registration for new players. The Registrar will be in contact and requires proof of residency (see points below). If any issues arise, the Registrar will involve the President and/or Vice President.
The EMHA registers only players who live within its boundaries (K1C, K1J and K1B/Pineview postal codes). If you are unsure about where to register, please refer to the HEO interactive maps.
All new players must provide proof of residence when registering. The following paragraphs assist with the process of registering. The description “Outside of HEO” includes all associations under Hockey Canada, under USA Hockey or any other international ice hockey federation.
If your child HAS played minor hockey outside of HEO:
- You will need to provide proof of residence and the contact information for the association in which your child last played;
- The OMHA will ask for a transfer of the child’s records, based on your registration form.
- If you are moving into the HEO area, please refer to the HEO website for more information on the residency change and transfer process.
- You will need to provide proof of residence and the contact information for the Association in which your child last played;
- You will need to complete the Declaration of Residence process, as detailed on the HEO website;
- The EMHA will ask for a transfer of the child’s records, based on your registration form and residence declaration.
- You must register online, and the Registrar will be in contact with you for all additional details needed.
General EMHA Information
The EMHA supplies team sweaters, which MUST be returned at the end of the season. A deposit is required for a group of sweaters loaned to a team. This deposit is FULLY refundable at the end of the season, provided that no damage outside of normal wear and tear has occurred to the sweaters. Sweaters can only be picked up for the whole team (not individually). EMHA sweaters are NOT to be worn outside of regular season, playoffs or tournament games. Game jerseys are not to be worn during practices.
Goalie parents are responsible for providing goalie equipment for their child, except for U7. The EMHA offers a goalie equipment rental service as an option to teams and parents. See the Goalie Equipment Rental webpage for information on rates. Goalie pads, blocker/trapper and chest protector can be rented. Goalie sticks and “cow-catchers” (i.e. plastic throat protector) are limited for rent and must be provided by the parent, if none are available.
Once your child has been assigned to a House League or Competitive team, you will be asked for team fees to cover the cost of additional practice ice, exhibition games, tournament registrations, team parties, etc. These team fees are paid by each player to the team and may be made in installments over the course of the season. A team meeting will be held at the beginning of the season to discuss budgets, tournaments, coach's rules, etc. That is the time to voice your opinion to the Coach/Manager of your team. If you strongly disagree with the budget, you have the option of removing your child from the team. In any team decision-making process, the majority rules. House League teams can expect to pay between $250 and $450 per player, while team fees for Competitive teams range from $1,000 (Rep B) to $2,500+ (A/AA, AAA) per player. House League team fees are capped as per EMHA Policy & Procedures.
