Two In A Row!!!
2013-12-23One game with a solid effort could be called an anomaly, two spirited hard working skates in a row might be a coincidence, but three fantastic, top to bottom gritty shows of determination has to be a trend.
It started with a strong show against one of the league leaders, Blackburn Stingers and followed with the first win of the season against Cumberland 3. Last night, the trend was solidified with a 2-1 victory over a feisty Metcalfe Jets 2 team. The RUSH started the contest with lots of hustle and a determined work ethic. The forwards generated lots of scoring chances but nothing went in for either team in the first frame. Goalie Seb made a scintillating blocker stop late in the period to keep his team motivated.
Metcalfe opened the scoring three and a half minutes into the middle stanza, scoring on a long low wrister with an Orleans player in the penalty box. Not to be out-done, our boys scored a power play marker of their own when Alex fired a hard shot on net only to have Collin jam the rebound into the yawning cage. The RUSH had stayed in focus, clawed back and tied the match. Early in the final period, the game winning goal came on a pretty play with Steven in the opposition corner. He waited for the perfect opportunity and with Dom sneaking in from the left point, he fired a precision pass through eight legs and right onto tape. Dom made no mistake with his one-timer and ripped a blast into the back of the net.
Orleans did not allow Metcalfe back in the game and finished with a well-deserved 2-1 win. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and may the trend continue!
