Orleans RUSH back in the win column …
2014-01-23The RUSH faced off tonight against Metcalfe 2. Both teams are having a tough time in the win department this year.
The first period was fast paced and provided some good scoring chances for both sides but some strong goaltending from both netminders kept the score locked at zero.
The second frame started strong for our boys resulting in much of the play in the opponents end. The hard work finally paid off for Orleans when Dom fired a shot from the point that bounced right to Pat who slid a nice pass to Aaron for a clear shot to the back of the net. Orleans kept up the pressure but at the 2:33 mark, with the play in our end, their defenseman fired a shot from the top of the face off circle that got by Seb who appeared to be screened on the play.
The final period saw some good pressure by both sides. Each team had early scoring chances but once again strong goaltending kept the score even. With about five minutes left in the third it seemed that Metcalfe had found their second wind and were all over the RUSH. Seb had to make numerous big saves to keep our boys in the game. But then with just over 2 minutes left, Orleans was able clear the zone. Mark picked up the puck just inside our blue line and fed a pass up to Patrick who carried the play into their zone. Pat fired a beautiful tape-to-tape pass to Collin who made a nifty play to deke their goalie and fired in the go ahead goal at the 2:33 of third.
With just over a minute left in the game, Metcalfe pulled their goalie for the extra attacker. Metcalfe dumped the puck into our zone that went right to Seb. Seeing an opportunity to get yet another assist, he quickly fired the puck up the boards to Thomas who then made a perfect pass to Julien for the easy empty net goal to give us the 3-1 win. !!!
