RUSH Claws Back to Tie Hawks 2
2014-02-14The Midget A2 Orleans RUSH were skating in quicksand for the first half of last night's game versus the Leitrim Hawks 2 but once they got their legs moving, they just about stole two points.
Orleans got into some penalty trouble early on and there is nothing like an extended period of shorthandedness to kill momentum in a game. Even with the boys skating backwards most of the first frame, goalie Seb held the fort and no goals were scored at either end. The RUSH continued its lacklustre effort into the middle stanza and the Hawks took full advantage by scoring a goal after Orleans just could not clear the puck in front of Seb and no back-checkers were seen for miles.
Towards the end of the second and into the start of the third, Orleans started to play the way we all know they can. Vincent made a sharp breakout pass to Steven racing on the right wing through the neutral zone. Steven hit the blueline in full stride, made a nifty move around the right "D" and, at the 8:57 mark, fired a hard wrist shot into the back of the Leitrim net. Steven almost had another one on a similar play but rang the rubber off the crossbar after having beaten the goalie. The match ended in a 1-1 tie with hopes that the Orleans team from the last half of this game would be the one who showed up to the next contest.
