A2 RUSH Wins the Battle of Orleans Over A1 Brethren!!!

2014-03-05

Finishing the regular season on a high note, the Midget A2 RUSH defeated the A1 squad by a score of 5-4 at Potivin Arena last night.

In a game that wasn't quite as close as the score may indicate, our A2 boys (hereafter referred to as the RUSH) played well enough to earn two points and solidify a higher place in the standings than the A1 Orleans team. The RUSH started strong and two minutes into the contest, Julien pounded in a juicy rebound after an initial shot by Aaron. A1 would claw back and tie the match at the 3:26 mark with a rebound goal of their own while on a 5 on 3 advantage with two RUSH in the bin.

The middle stanza almost exclusively belonged to our RUSH as they took territorial advantage away from their namesakes. At the 7:50 mark, a nice pass in from the right offensive corner led to a crisp shot on net by Aaron and a juicy rebound backhanded into the open cage by Steven who had joined the rush from his point position. A little more than a minute and a half later, Pat won a key faceoff to the right of the A1 goalie with Vincent grabbing the puck and feeding Steven on the left point. Steven released a nice, low shot through a pack of bodies and the disc had eyes, landing in the back of the net from an entrance just inside the left post. On the powerplay three minutes later, Griffin fired a hot shot from the right point that was deftly re-directed into the net by Thomas. The boys had taken a commanding 4-1 lead. A1 scored an "excuse me" goal with only six seconds left in the period as a RUSH defensive breakdown led to an A1 breakaway and although Justin valiantly tried to poke check the puck, it was flipped up and over him and settled in the open RUSH cage.

In the third frame, A1 made things interesting with a wraparound powerplay tally five minutes in. The RUSH would respond less than two minutes later with a powerplay marker of their own. Steven picked up a loose puck at his own blueline and rushed with speed through the neutral zone and between the two A1 defenders. He fired a hard shot on net, picked up his own rebound and blasted home his hat trick tally to stake his team to a two goal lead once again. A1 would get one more a minute and a half later while on another powerplay and with their goalie pulled in favour of an extra attacker but time wound down and the final result was a score of 5-4 for the RUSH over Orleans A1.

GREAT GAME RUSH, BRING ON THE PLAYOFFS!!!
